i think it loks like the marder if i take out the side plates..what are the side plates for anyway?

Not sure what the side plates are for, but I know If you have a marder and purchase the beetle conversion, They give you similar side plates. They may be for specific body styles.

The side plates are made to add extra support to your chassis plate, as you can see, they are made for the off road trucks, the buggy versions like the marder and FG baja don't come with those because the intention for these 2 buggies were off road racing, not bashing, so there was no need for the extra support or weight, the monster and stadium versions come with side plates as standard.

Those plates are very expensive, at over $50 each new, so if your converting over to racing your truck and not bashing it, the plates are not needed and can bring you back a good dime on the market.
