I know this site is not "tuned" for electrics, but I though I would post this for anyone that might be interested....

Several months ago we started a build of a prototype 1/4 scale funny car using all new parts and
very little RC equipment in the power train. The final production will be two cars, one for Tammy and one for me.
These are built for speed, with some realism thrown in to keep them "Honest".
It will not be anything like some of the realistic cars I see on here, but are meant just for some really fun drag racing.

Hers will be metallic blue ( Speed Demon) and mine will be metal flake Orange ( Orange Crush)

Thanks to a really crappy winter, we have only gotten the prototype complete.
We were hoping to have both done by now.

Since we have WAY too much torque than we need, and since the car is a bear to handle,
it was decided to throw a coat of primer, some appropriate Skull and Cross bones
( I am Retired NAVY) and do the testing with some fun to boot.

It is a Molly tube frame, large LifePo4 Batteries, Kart wheels/tires, disk brakes and a 4.5HP (at least) Brushed motor.
The controller can be computer programmed for any type of track condition.

Today was the first time the car has made to a real track. Before now all we were able
to do between the rain and snow was try to get it to stick.
Much to my neighbors amusement, many donuts were done out front of our home.

Florence Bound:
First off, we want to thank Ted Allred at the Florence Track for helping us out, putting up with our ill handling car,
and trying his best to keep the track sticky in some of the worst of pollen we have seen in years.

The car lived up to is nick name. Even with a couple of good straight passes, they were on the edge of traction.
Most of the passes were not worth timing as I was concentrating on going straight, but it was all good as we
remedied several small issues you get from a car with this much HP and little traction. We will be getting some traction compound
or different tires, gear changes and a few other things before the next event so we can maximize the speed information.

More later!

this is outstanding!

horsepower is horsepower no matter how it is achieved. on that note, i never understood why electrics never got the respect they deserved.

you def. have one more reader following this thread.

We have been making progress. Right now the car has too much power for the wheel setup.

( I know ....waaaa) We will be testing again in a week or two and hope to have video then.

An electric motor is EXACLLY what a drag racer wants
INSTANT TORQUE from the word go.
The power to weight ration of an electric shits on gas.

An electric dragster holds the RC speed record.
What are you talking about?

How are you going to see one at FBF since the rules do not allow electrics to compete at FBF

Well thank you for that
If you would like to work on Sundays for me i would have my 1/4 scale, FG baja, and HPI Baja running and competiting. Hopefully next year will be different for me.

That is my point exactly. If they were encouraged then maybe you will will see the people begin to come out of the woodwork. It is just like the 1/4 scale scene that is blowing up at FBF. It is good but alittle encouragement goes a long way. It has nothing to do with knowing something or not. When rules are set that eliminates specific classes then why build a car og make the pilgrimage to FBF. That is all that I am saying Nick. No disrespect. Just saying

the reason we dont make a class is because not enough of them come 2 the track any ways
and also they dont want 2 run 330ft....
